HISTORY OF THE WORLD CONGRESS

The World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies has hosted a World Congress of Neurosurgery every four years since 1957. The most recent congresses have recently been hosted in Bogotá, Colombia (2022), Istanbul, Turkey (2017), and Seoul, South Korea (2013).

An Interim Meeting has also been on a 4-yearly basis, with the most recent being Beijing, China (2019), Rome, Italy (2015) and Recifé, Brazil (2011).

The WFNS took a decision in 2015 that the Interim Meeting will be replaced by a World Congress, and the 2023 World Congress will be the first in this new cycle.

It is with great anticipation that the World Congress will be held in sub-Saharan Africa for the first time, in Cape Town in December 2023.
